Birthday Newspaper Card

Newsflash! Only one more day to get Approaching Perfection and Darling Donkey free with any $50 purchase from my Stampin' Up! online store. Sale-A-Bration ends Sunday at midnight, oh no!

This easy card was made with lots of fun stamping from multiple sets. Approaching Perfection is perfect for this humorous, newspaper-cover style card, but you can mix in any of your favorite sets to customize the "stories" to be whatever you need!

I used post-it notes to mask the donkey and chicken before I stamped them. After everything was stamped, I drew in some simple lines using a black pen and a ruler.

The Make A Difference stamp set has an amazing alphabet that I used to stamp out the "Vol 1" - you could stamp a birthdate, year or other favorite phrase.

Finally, I sponged around the edges and across the paper to add a little grunge to help achieve the newspaper look.

Whale of a Time Card CASE - DOswts340

#DOswts340

This week the DOstamper Stars are CASE'ing the brand new catalog. CASE = Copy And Share Everything. In other words, feel free to copy.  Easy peasy! No thinking involved, just pick my favorite card and GO!

The new Whale of a Time Suite was a no brainer for me. If it's got ocean colors or sea creatures, you'll find it at the top of my list. And a matching punch? Duh. Check out my closeup of the pretty sequins, some of them are shell shaped.

INSTRUCTIONS
I selected the card on page 94 of the catalog.
2. The card base is in Pretty Peacock, cut at a standard A2 card size.
3. I layered a panel from the Whale of a Time 6 x 6 Designer Series Paper (4 x 5.25)
4. Stamp some highlights on your whale in Pretty Peacock.
5. Punch and assemble your whale using the Whale Punch. I used Pretty Peacock and Pool Party cardstock here.
6.  Cut a 2 x 3 piece of  Calypso Coral, snipping out a bit to make a tail. Cut a 1x3 piece of Terracotta Tile, and emboss the sentiment in white.
7. Use adhesive to attach some sequins.

We visited the Clearwater Marine Aquarium on Monday. Have you ever seen the the movie Dolphin Tale or Dolphin Tale 2, about Winter the dolphin who lost his tail in a boating accident? Winter lives at the CMA, which is a working marine hospital. They take care of animals who are ill or injured, and return many to the wild after their recovery is over. Some, like Mavis the Turtle (below) or Winter, must stay at the CMA for the rest of their lives because of their injury.  Seeing the turtles and other sea animals really reminded me of the beautiful images in this new suite, especially in the DSP.

My version of the card on page 94. A few minor differences, forgot to add the ribbon and left off the random vellum circle because it wasn't doing anything for me. Also, I couldn't find my vellum.

DOstamper STARS DOswts339 Sketch & Hop

This week has been full of turmoil in the Twin Cities. Just as we were starting to peek outside our doors, storm clouds entered again. It may seem a bit trivial, but making and sharing cards has been a source of calm. I started this umbrella card before last weekend, but it seems so appropriate now. I'm happy to keep connecting with friends through sharing of cards.

I hope you enjoy this weeks hop! Below is the sketch that we followed! Save it because it's a great and easy sketch to adapt to lots of stamp sets!

I made the umbrella by stamping the umbrella onto a scrap of whisper white cardstock. I then stamped several of the flower images from the set and colored them in with Stampin' Blends markers. I trimmed off the white border. I then punched the umbrella out on a second scrap. I adhered the stamped and colored piece over the punched piece.

The upside down umbrellas was punched and colored as usual.

Llama Llama Llama

Have any of you seen the show "Milo Murphy's Law" on Disney XD? It's an adorable show and if you liked "Phineas & Ferb" then  you'll love it (even if you're over 12 years old) :) A recent episode was FULL of llamas and is the inspiration for today's challenge card - featuring the soon-t0-be retiring Stampin' Up! Birthday Fiesta stamp set. If you've seen the episode then you probably have that song stuck in your head! :)
The best of this stamp set is the gorgeous coordinating Designer Series Paper, full of bright colors and patterns. There is also a coordinating die set. I cut the llama by hand and layered him over a white panel with a bit of the paper peeking through the back. I used the marker technique on some of the stamps to color them.

My doggie Lucy wanted to say HI this week:

I love this week's color challenge, it's full of fresh, vibrant colors that make me happy. I love color! I decided to step outside my comfort zone with the card size and made a non-traditional card at 3 1/2" x 6". The beauty of having the envelope maker is the freedom to play around with different card sizes.
I created the background for this card using my new Pacific Point watercolor pencil that came with this month's "A Sara Thing" Paper Pumpkin kit and then just layered several balloons and clouds on top.
